Glen Johnson has picked out Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana for criticism in Liverpool’s victory over Monterrey on Wednesday night.

Roberto Firmino swept home in the first minute of added time for a 2-1 win over Monterrey in the Club World Cup semi-final and Liverpool will now face Flamengo in the final.

Firmino converted a cross from another of Jurgen Klopp’s substitutes Trent Alexander-Arnold for the winner, after Naby Keita’s third goal in as many games was quickly cancelled out by Rogelio Funes Mori, twin brother of former Everton defender Ramiro.

And Johnson thinks Lallana was at fault for Funes Mori’s goal that got Monterrey back on level terms.

“There’s too many players playing out of position,” Johnson told BBC Sport. “Lallana is in the middle of the goal and he runs past the goalscorer and just leaves him.

“If that was a natural holding midfielder or a centre-half they would not have run past that player.

“He did the right thing in trying to push out but you have to push out at the right pace. You can’t just run past players, not in the middle of the goal.”
