Jose Mourinho has dismissed claims from Danny Rose that he wasn’t given a chance at Tottenham, insisting he was given “a great opportunity” to impress.
Rose left the club in January, joining Premier League rivals Newcastle on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The full-back has since spoken out over his Spurs exit, believing he wasn’t given a chance to prove his worth to Mourinho.
“I do feel I wasn’t given as much of a chance as everybody else in the backline,” Rose told BBC Radio 5 Live last week.
“I did want to play for him.”
Ahead of this weekend’s trip to face Aston Villa, Mourinho has refuted the 29-year-old’s claims, insisting Rose was given an opportunity in some of the club’s most “important matches”.
“For Danny Rose it was great opportunity to play three very important matches,” Mourinho said at his pre-match press conference.
“He played against Liverpool and Olympiakos, probably the two more important matches that we had to play, and also against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
“So a great opportunity to play three matches and show me what he’s capable of doing.”
