ROSWELL, GA — A Roswell restaurant will serve free food to families who have been impacted by the partial government shutdown. Wild Slice Pizzeria said it’s serving free pizzas and drinks to the men, women and children who are caught in the middle of a standoff between President Donald Trump and Congressional Democrats over funding of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Wild Slice Pizzeria is offering families to dine in with the restaurant during the shutdown to receive a personal, 10-inch one topping pizza with a drink “for you and each of your immediately family, while supplies last.”
Mike Thomas, owner of the business, said his thoughts are with the employees who are not getting paid due to the shutdown. He said his family-owned establishment has also seen its share of “difficult times.”
“It’s hard to fully express how much we appreciate the work you do for our country,” Thomas added. “Our values and culture as a family and company are to identify any and all opportunities to serve our community.”

Since starting the initiative last week, Thomas said the Wild Slice team said it’s received hundreds of comments, messages, emails and phone calls from those impacted sharing their appreciation. He also said more than 30 families have been served nearly 60 pizzas.
Thomas went on to say that he hopes this serves as an opportunity for the community to come together and share compassion during this “difficult and divided time.” He also said the restaurant’s offer will stand as long as the partial shutdown is in place.
“We hope that what little we are able to do will not only bring some relief, but also inspire other businesses to do the same,” Thomas said.
The president’s proposed plan to reopen the government will be taken up in the Senate. Trump on Saturday announced he’d extend temporary deportation protections for immigrants under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals in exchange for a spending package that would provide $5.7 billion for a border wall.
