Some concerning news came from Bulgaria today…
The head coach of senior national team of Bulgaria Plamen Konstantinov expressed some concerns about hosting of the finals in second group in FIVB World League, which Bulgaria is supposed to receive in sports hall “Kongresna” at Varna city.
During an official press conference held today Konstantinov told journalists that he is not sure that the sports hall will be completely repaired by early July ( the hall is now under construction and the finals of second group in FIVB World League are scheduled for 10th – and 11th of July.
This means that Bulgaria will have to find another hall for the host matches of the preliminary group vs. Cuba (26- 28 of June), and Argentina (3-5 of July). The only alternative for now seems to be the sports hall “Arena Botevgrad” where the matches could be played.
Bulgaria will host in the hall of Botevgrad the first two matches in the FIVB World League vs. Canada on 29th and May 31st .
Furthermore, “Arena Botevgrad” has the license from FIVB to accept duels of such rank. “Arena Armeec” in Sofia which hosted the FIVB World League finals in 2012, also has a license from the FIVB, but hiring this hall comes too expensive for the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation.
“I’m not sure that the sports hall “Kongresna ” in Varna is ready to accept the finals in the World League and this is a big problem for us. At first we had a plan for preparation. We wanted both teams (Bulgaria A team and Bulgaria B team) to continue to prepare, train and play together in Varna, but construction hardly will be completed on time. Now we have to change the halls, the cities and nothing is clear … “, Plamen Konstantinov said.
By 7th of May Team Bulgaria will prepare in Sofia –in sports hall “Hristo Botev” and a day later trainings will continue in the training room of “Arena Armeec”. On 21th of May the team will travel to Serbia, and on 22 and 23 May the Bulgarians will meet Team Searbia for friendly matches.
From May 25 on the “Lions” will train in Botevgrad before the matches vs. Canada.
In late June the team must be in Varna.
On June 10, the second national team of Bulgaria will travel to Baku for the first ever European Olympic Games.
“Each week we will be moving in different halls and this reflects badly on our preparation. There is a serious confusion whether the hall in Varna will be ready for the final tournament of the World League. This is the greatest confusion, which prevents us to make a plan for preparation.
Both squads (A and B) will train on a similar method- system. Nikolay Zheliazkov will lead the B team in Baku and Georgi Petrov will be his assistant. There will be also a fitness coach. The players in both teams should be equally prepared. We need to work on the same system, ” said Konstantinov.
In the first part of the summer season the goal is a strong performance in the World League, where Bulgaria will meet Canada, Argentina and Cuba.
