ROH has announced the first three matches of Summer Supercard on July 9 in Toronto, Cananda. This show will take place during Summerslam weekend and air live on Honor Club. The show will feature wrestlers from CMLL, ROH, NWA, and NJPW. The matches announced so far include ROH World Champion Matt Taven vs. Alex Shelley, NWA CHampion Nick Aldis vs. a member of Villain Enterprises, and Caristico, & Stuka Jr. & Soberano Jr. vs. Barbaro Cavernario & Hechicero & Templario. The show will air live on ROHWrestling.com.
For the NWA Title match, Marty Scurll, the leader of Villain Enterprises, must pick between himself, PCO, Flip Gordon, or Brody King to face Nick Aldis for the NWA Worlds Championship. You can see the latest episode of 10 Pounds of Gold below to see how the match was set up by NWA below:
Radican’s Analysis: I really like the matches that have been announced so far. Shelley has just returned from ROH after a long layoff due to injury. I’m excited to see what he does with this opportunity as a fresh challenger to Taven on a big stage during SummerSlam weekend.
NWA is doing some really good storytelling heading into the show Aldis trying to cause dissension in Villain Enterprises by letting Marty Scurll choose which member of the group challenges for his title on the show. I’m guessing it will be Scurll, which will cause problems in Villain Enterprises going forward. It could be the beginning of Scurll’s write off as well, as his ROH contract is set to expire close to the end of 2019. Scurll and Aldis had a tremendous match earlier this year at The Crockett Cup, so a rematch would be a lot of fun to see.
I’m also looking forward to seeing the CMLL wrestlers deliver some lucha action in the six man tag. ROH doesn’t do the best job of getting over their personalities, but it’s always fun to watch the CMLL wrestlers perform in ROH.
