Mitsuharu Misawa announced officially the formation of his new promotion, Nippon TV officially announced cancellation of the All Japan television show and Toshiaki Kawada talked about attempting to go to New Japan were highlights of the aftermath of the All Japan split. Misawa held his press conference on 6/16 at Diffa Ariake, the new building in the Ariake suburb of Tokyo, which was built specifically for pro wrestling to replace Korakuen Hall as the small show mecca in the Tokyo area and which, ironically enough, has its first show on 7/1 booked by the All Japan promotion.

FRIDAY NEWS UPDATE
For this weekend, the full Raw crew is working all the weekend shows. On the Smackdown side, Randy Orton is not on the show in Wildwood, NJ, but is on the show the next night in Newark, DE. John Cena is working all the Smackdown shows this weekend.
The Kushida vs. Hiromu Takahashi IWGP jr. title match from Dominion, which wasn’t on the original AXS showing of Dominion because they didn’t want to edit Omega vs. Okada or Tanahashi vs. Naito, will be on tonight’s show.
ESPN ran a great 30 for 30 documentary last night on George Best. I had met George and his wife at the time, Angie, during the early 80s when he played for the San Jose Earthquakes and remember when his son was born. It was really sad seeing how bad his health issues and drinking issues had gotten. He was a very nice guy and incredibly charismatic guy when he wasn’t drinking.
ESPN’s E:60 will be doing a major feature on the life of Mike Tyson with Jeremy Schaap on Sunday at 9 a.m. Eastern time.
