After a stunning individual display on Saturday, the teenage striker has been the subject of praise from his Ligue 1 opponents

Kylian Mbappe scored two and created another as Paris Saint-Germain routed Angers 5-0 in Ligue 1 on Saturday, and stars from the home side were lining up to pay tribute to the 18-year-old attacker.

PSG were without Neymar for their trip to Stade Raymond Kopa, yet that did not stop them turning in what was one of their most impressive performances of the season to date.

Mbappe had come in for some moderate criticism in recent weeks due to a handful of subdued performances, but was right back to his best at the weekend.

“The acceleration that he showed on the fifth goal, before he had touched the ball, I’ve never seen anything like it,” admitted home player Gilles Sunu, who was once on the books of Arsenal.

Centre-back Romain Thomas said: “I asked myself if I’ve ever faced anything so quick in my whole life. With his ability to find spaces, the qualities he’s got to support others, those are the best things.”

Mbappe, however, was involved in a late clash with Angelo Fulgini.

“At that moment, I thought he was a little riled,” Thomas said. “He’s a young player. I told him that he didn’t need to do it, I tried to give him some advice, but I don’t know if he’s going to take it.”

Thomas was impressed with the whole side, though.

“That’s what the best in Europe do. Julian Draxler and Javier Pastore aren’t even starters,” he added. “I don’t see any defects in their side. I hope they can win the Champions League.”
