Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool could pay for Jurgen Klopp’s “big mistake” in the transfer market.

Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham on Monday as the Premier League leader’s collective “anxiety” was plain to see.

Their lead at the top of the table is now just three points, with Manchester City and Tottenham both in hot pursuit.

Their mini wobble – having now dropped points in consecutive games for only the second time this season – is partially due to defensive injury problems that have exposed their soft underbelly.

And Carragher agrees with the Mailbox that Klopp’s January decision to loan Nathaniel Clyne out to Bournemouth looks questionable with each passing game.

“When there’s a few injuries in different positions it doesn’t look like that solid Liverpool side you’ve seen in the last four or five months, it doesn’t feel right,” he told Sky Sports.

“I said yesterday about Manchester United having a better squad than Liverpool.

“I think Klopp’s made a big mistake letting Clyne go, I do not understand why he did that.

“James Milner’s played right-back there twice now, it’s hard to see how he played left-back so long.

“Klopp is massively important to what Liverpool are doing, he’s the big figure in that dressing room and he’s been in this position before.

“But this is not a dressing room full of winners yet, it’s their first time in a title race.

“There’s a still a long way to go, I still believe with two or three games to go Liverpool will be in the title race.

“Whoever goes furthest in the Champions League will have a big effect on it all.”
